How to Read Outlook Emails with OAuth2 Refresh Tokens Online

Since Microsoft retired legacy Basic Authentication for Outlook POP3 and IMAP connections, automated testing pipelines, QA teams, and multi-account workflows can no longer fetch inbox messages using a simple email and password pair. Instead, modern programmatic access relies on OAuth2 credentials—specifically a registered client_id paired with a long-lived refresh_token.

Why OAuth2 Replaced Basic Password Login

Traditional password logins frequently trigger interactive CAPTCHAs, device security prompts, or account locks when accessed from different environments. An OAuth2 refresh_token lets a client request a short-lived access_token directly from Microsoft's token endpoint and read inbox messages without repeating full browser sign-in flows.

Import Single or Batch Outlook Accounts

The Outlook OAuth2 Reader provides a unified dashboard for inspecting inboxes across multiple accounts. Click Import in the left sidebar to load credentials using standard delimiter formats such as ----, :, or ,:

  • Typical 4-field format: email----password----client_id----refresh_token
  • Token-only format: email----client_id----refresh_token

Once imported, your account list stays organized in the sidebar with instant search filtering, so you can switch between dozens of test inboxes in a single click.

Fetch Verification Codes and Inspect Messages Safely

Select any account in the sidebar of the Outlook OAuth2 Reader to load its latest messages from the Inbox or Junk folder:

  1. Check both Inbox and Junk: Automated registration and OTP emails often land in the Junk folder on fresh Outlook accounts.
  2. Pair with 2FA when needed: If an account also uses time-based two-factor authentication for interactive logins, generate its 6-digit code alongside your email workflow with the TOTP Authenticator.
  3. Debug token claims: When troubleshooting OAuth2 scopes or expiration windows, paste the issued token into the JWT Decoder to verify its permissions.

Export and Clean Your Account List

After verifying which accounts are active, use the Export modal in the Outlook OAuth2 Reader to download your organized credentials with custom delimiters. Keeping a clean, validated token file ensures your QA and automation workflows stay reliable.
